In 2009, PILZ released a new automation system - PSS 4000, which was developed based on the original modular distributed I/O system - PSSuniversal's hardware architecture and can cover multiple functions such as safety control, standard control, visualization and diagnosis. , providing another optional automation system solution for users in the field of industrial automation.

In 2023, PILZ upgraded the head module unit containing the CPU processor element in the PSS 4000 automation system and launched the CPU2.0 version of the head module. The new version of the head module can improve computing performance by 25% to 50%. , which means that the execution speed of user programs is faster and the cycle is shorter. Under the same running cycle requirements, the scale of the entire system program can be larger. Since the CPU2.0 version uses the latest technology developed semiconductor chips, the life cycle of the entire PSS 4000 system becomes longer.


Unchanged “appearance” and stronger performance


In terms of appearance and size, the head module of the CPU 2.0 version remains the same as the 1.0 version. Users can only find the difference from the model naming and nameplate printing. The consistent appearance makes users extremely "silky" when switching between old and new versions, and existing I/O modules can be expanded after the CPU2.0 version of the head module, and all installation, design, and debugging methods remain unchanged.


In terms of model naming, all CPU2.0 version head modules have the Arabic numeral 2 in the naming, for example: PSSu H PLC2 FS SN SD (312077), PSSu H FS2 SN SD (312087), PSSu H PLC2 FS SN SD- T(314077), PSSu H FS2 SN SD-T(314087), the order number is in brackets.

It should be noted that the CPU2.0 version of the head module will no longer come with its own SD card and card tray. Users need to purchase it separately. There are two types of SD cards with 1G capacity (313102) and 4G capacity SD cards (313103). Optionally, the card tray is packaged with the SD card.


In terms of software tools, the configuration method, function configuration, parameter setting, etc. are consistent with the past methods, but users must use the PAS 4000 tool with version 1.20 and above to find the CPU2.0 version of the head module hardware.

Things to note when upgrading existing PSS 4000 systems to CPU2.0


For existing equipment or production lines, if you want to upgrade the old PSS 4000 system to CPU 2.0 hardware, you need to pay attention to the following points:


The CPU1.0 version system upgrade to the 2.0 version only requires modifying the header module configuration in the source program without modifying the program code. It is completed after downloading.

The CPU2.0 version head module only covers PSSu PLC and PSSu I/O level head modules. PSSu Multi level head modules (312060, 316065, 312066) are planned to be discontinued in 2024.

The CPU2.0 version head module will no longer provide Profibus-DP communication function, and the PSSu H PLC1 FS DP SN SD (312071) module is also planned to be discontinued in 2024
