PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Product Detailed Description
Function:
Provides thermal overload protection for AC motors by monitoring motor current and calculating its thermal state.
Trips the associated contactor/circuit when the motor's thermal capacity is exceeded, preventing damage due to sustained overcurrents, locked rotor conditions, or phase loss.
Offers adjustable trip classes (10, 15, 20, 30) to match various motor starting characteristics and applications.
Includes enhanced phase loss protection, quickly detecting and responding to conditions where one or more phases are lost.
Features thermal memory, which models the heating and cooling effects of motor on and off periods for more accurate protection of both hot and cold motors.
Provides both manual and automatic reset options.
Includes N.C. (Normally Closed) trip contact and N.O. (Normally Open) alarm contact for integration into control circuits and signaling.
Features:
Self-Powered Design: Eliminates the need for a separate control power supply, simplifying wiring and reducing heat generation in control cabinets.
Wide 5:1 Adjustment Range: Covers a broad range of Full Load Current (FLA) settings, significantly reducing the number of different overload relay models required in inventory.
Direct Contactor Mounting: Designed for direct mounting to Allen-Bradley 100-C30, 100-C37, or 100-C43 3-pole contactors, creating a sturdy two-component starter assembly.
Adjustable Trip Class: Selectable trip classes (10, 15, 20, 30) via DIP switches or potentiometer, allowing customization for specific motor applications.
Reset Type Selection: Configurable for automatic or manual reset.
Trip Indication: Visual indication of a trip condition.
Low Energy Consumption: Minimizes heat rise inside control cabinets.
Rugged Construction: Over-molded power connections and separately secured current transformers provide resistance to shock and vibration.
Isolated Contacts: N.C. trip contact and N.O. alarm contact are isolated, allowing application in circuits with different voltage levels and no polarity restrictions.
Product Parameters

Terminal Type: Screw Terminals (optional Cage Clamp control terminals may be available on some 193-EE variants)
Certification: CE, UL, CSA (typically)
Operating Temperature: Generally for industrial control cabinet environments (refer to specific datasheet for exact range).
Product Advantages
Superior Motor Protection: Provides more accurate and consistent thermal modeling compared to bimetallic relays, leading to better protection against various overload and fault conditions.
Reduced Inventory: The wide 5:1 adjustment range means fewer part numbers are needed to cover a broad current range, simplifying stocking and reducing costs.
Energy Efficient: Self-powered design and low power consumption minimize heat generation within control panels, potentially reducing cooling requirements.
Enhanced Phase Loss Protection: Quicker response to phase loss conditions helps prevent severe motor damage.
Easy Setup and Installation: Simple dial-in setting for FLA, direct mounting to contactors, and clear indication simplify installation and commissioning.
Thermal Memory: Protects motors more effectively during intermittent operation by accounting for residual heat.
Robust Design: Built to withstand industrial environments, offering high reliability and longevity.
Precautions
Obsolete Status: As of April 2021, the 193-E1 Plus series (including 193-EEFD) has been discontinued by Rockwell Automation. While still available from surplus suppliers, consider the long-term availability of parts and support. The recommended replacement is the Allen-Bradley E100 Electronic Overload Relay.
Contactor Compatibility: Ensure direct mounting is only done with the specified Allen-Bradley 100-C30, 100-C37, or 100-C43 3-pole contactors.
Correct FLA Setting: Accurately dial in the motor's Full Load Amps (FLA) rating on the potentiometer for proper protection.
Trip Class Selection: Select the appropriate trip class (10, 15, 20, or 30) based on the motor's starting current and duration. Class 10 is for standard, fast-starting motors; higher classes are for motors with longer starting times.
Wiring: Follow the wiring diagrams carefully for power, motor, and control circuit connections. Ensure proper grounding.
Reset Mode: Choose between manual and automatic reset based on application safety requirements. Manual reset is generally preferred for safety-critical applications.
Environmental Conditions: Install the relay within its specified operating temperature and humidity ranges.
Troubleshooting: Understand the trip indications and diagnostic features to effectively troubleshoot motor faults.
Product Applications
The Allen-Bradley 193-EEFD Electronic Overload Relay is suitable for a wide range of industrial motor control applications where reliable and accurate overload protection is critical, especially for standard 3-phase AC motors.
Pumps: Protecting various types of pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement) from overload.
Fans and Blowers: Ensuring the safe operation of industrial ventilation and air handling systems.
Conveyors: Protecting motors driving conveyor belts from overcurrents due to jams or heavy loads.
Compressors: Providing thermal protection for compressor motors.
Machine Tools: Protecting motors in lathes, mills, drills, and other machine tools.
Packaging Machinery: Safeguarding motors in packaging lines.
HVAC Systems: Used in industrial and commercial HVAC systems for motor protection.
General Purpose Motor Control: Any application requiring precise and reliable overload protection for 3-phase AC motors that do not require advanced communication or complex motor diagnostics (for which more advanced overload relays or protective relays would be used).
