Invensys launches industrial cloud Historian for Big Data

——— —— Integrated data history libraries and report generation packages reduce implementation time, cost, and improve on-demand performance

Invensys Operations Management (China)

On October 18, 2013, Invensys, the world's leading provider of the most advanced industrial software, systems and control equipment for major industries around the world, released a new cloud-hosted Wonderware Historian Online Edition. This release allows customers to securely share more factory data with their employees while reducing their IT burden. Built on more than 70,000 Wonderware Historian licenses, Invensys' new Historian Online Edition helps expand industry use by reducing implementation time, enabling universal access, and offering a choice of pricing models.

Wonderware Historian Online Edition simplifies setup, installation, and daily maintenance while improving availability. Data trends can be displayed for faster troubleshooting.

This innovative software-as-a-service product uses a multi-tiered Historian database structure to store data from one or more local factory-level Wonderware Historians on cloud-hosted, enterprise-grade devices. Data flows in only one direction - from the local history database to the online history database - and is protected against network intrusions, making it safe for more people to use and enabling greater troubleshooting, reporting, and analysis capabilities. Powered from Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud service, the solution eliminates the need to install or set up software, saving valuable IT resources and reducing capital requirements.

Rob McGreevy, vice president of information, Assets and Operations software at Invensys, said: "Our new Wonderware Historian Online Edition is a revolutionary way to access and use real-time data on demand. Providing a managed historical database simplifies setup, installation, and routine maintenance, while improving end-user availability by securely accessing information whenever and wherever it is needed. Users can scale as demand grows without worrying about infrastructure, hardware or software costs, upgrades or support."

The service is provided on an annual basis based on the number of users accessing the data.

Reports and analysis are delivered to the online version of the History database through standard tools, including Invensys' desktop reporting and analysis Client, Wonderware Historian Client, and Wonderware SmartGlance - mobile reporting solution. System users can view data from a variety of devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Wonderware Historian Online Edition is Invensys' first commercial product with Windows Azure, and the two companies have collaborated to develop software for manufacturing operations that can be hosted on the Windows Azure platform.

Dewey Forrester, senior director of business development and communications at Microsoft, said: "Windows Azure is a scalable and flexible cloud platform, and Invensys is launching its Wonderware Historian Online Edition on Windows Azure. IT shows that industrial companies can quickly bring new products online by using a platform that removes the burden of expensive IT infrastructure costs."

Invensys will be showcasing its Wonderware Historian and Smart Glance software this week at the 2013 Software Conference & Support Symposium in Dallas, Texas.
