Products Name: EMERSON 1098-EGR Programmable controller
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Product Detailed Description
Function: The 1098-EGR is a pilot-operated pressure-reducing regulator. It takes a higher, often variable, inlet pressure and reduces it to a lower, stable outlet pressure, maintaining that outlet pressure despite changes in upstream pressure or downstream flow demand. It uses inlet pressure as the operating medium, which is reduced through pilot operation to load the actuator diaphragm.
Key Features:
Precise Pressure Control: Provides stable and accurate downstream pressure control regardless of load changes or inlet pressure variations.
Low Differential Applications: Can accurately control at pressure differentials as low as 1 psid / 70 mbar d.
Quiet Operation: An optional Whisper Trim™ Cage can reduce noise by up to 30 dBa.
Easy In-Line Maintenance: Top-entry design allows for inspection, cleaning, and replacement of trim parts without removing the body from the pipeline.
Absolutely No Atmospheric Bleed: Utilizes a pilot-operated control system that bleeds 100% of the gas to the downstream system, eliminating wasteful bleed gas to the atmosphere.
High Turn Down Capability: Oversized diaphragm and linear cage enable high turn down, offering superior pressure control in systems with large variations in downstream flow demand.
Tight Shutoff: A knife-edged metal plug and soft seat provide bubble-tight shutoff,
Travel Indicator: Simplifies in-service inspection and system troubleshooting.
Robust Construction: Designed for industrial environments.
Product Parameters
The specific parameters for the 1098-EGR vary based on body size, end connections, and trim options. Here are common ranges and typical values:
Body Sizes: NPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 x 6, 12 x 6 / DN 25, 50, 80, 100, 150, 200 x 150, 300 x 150.
End Connections: NPT, CL150 RF, CL300 RF, CL600 RF, CL125FF, CL250RF, BWE
Maximum Inlet Pressure: 400 psig / 28 bar or body rating limit, whichever is lower.
Maximum Pilot Supply Pressure: 600 psig / 41.4 bar.
Outlet Pressure Ranges: Varies depending on the pilot type and spring (e.g., 3 to 20 psig, 2 inch w.c. to 2 psig, 3 to 40 psig, etc.). Specific ranges are detailed in the product datasheets for different pilot configurations (e.g., Type 6351, 6352, 6353 pilots).
Temperature Capabilities (Elastomers):
Nitrile (NBR): -20° to 180°F / -29° to 82°C
Fluorocarbon (FKM): 0° to 300°F / -18° to 149°C
Ethylenepropylene (EPDM): -20° to 275°F / -29° to 135°C
(Note: Water service limited to 0 to 200°F / -18 to 93°C)
Main Valve Flow Characteristic: Linear (standard) or Quick-opening.
Pressure Registration: External.
Certifications: UL, TÜV, CCC, CE, and others as applicable (check specific product documentation).
Product Advantages
Economical and Accurate: Provides both cost-effectiveness and high precision in pressure control.
High Reliability: Robust design, tight shutoff, and stable control ensure dependable operation.
Enhanced Safety: Eliminates atmospheric bleed, contributing to environmental protection and safety.
Reduced Maintenance: Top-entry design and quick-change trim package simplify and speed up maintenance procedures, reducing downtime.
Noise Reduction: The optional Whisper Trim™ cage is a significant advantage in noise-sensitive environments.
Versatile Application: Suitable for a wide variety of gas and liquid pressure regulation tasks.
Excellent Turndown: Handles wide variations in flow demand effectively.
Precautions
Correct Sizing and Selection: It is critical to select the correct body size, end connections, and pilot/spring combination based on the specific application's inlet pressure, desired outlet pressure range, flow rates, and fluid characteristics.
Installation: Follow the detailed installation instructions provided in the Fisher 1098-EGR instruction manual. Ensure proper alignment, support, and leak-free connections.
Pressure/Temperature Limits: Do not exceed the maximum pressure and temperature limits specified in the installation guide or any applicable standard/code. Consider the individual ratings for the main valve, actuator, and pilot.
Pilot Supply: Ensure the pilot supply pressure is within the specified maximum limits.
Media Compatibility: Verify that the materials of construction (especially elastomers) are compatible with the fluid being regulated to prevent corrosion or degradation.
Overpressure Protection: For stability or overpressure protection, a reducing regulator may need to be installed upstream of the pilot.
Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and maintenance as outlined in the instruction manual to ensure continued optimal performance and safety.
Product Applications
The Emerson Fisher Type 1098-EGR pressure reducing regulator is extensively used in:
Natural Gas Distribution Systems: For controlling pressure in pipelines and consumer supply lines.
Fuel Gas Supply: To industrial boilers, furnaces, ovens, and mixers.
Large Commercial / Industrial Establishments: Such as shopping centers, schools, and hospitals, for regulating gas pressure.
Plant Air Service: For regulating compressed air pressure within industrial plants.
Liquid Service: In applications where a slow stroking time (approximately 30 to 90 seconds) is desired on both opening and closing the main valve.
Process Industries: Wherever accurate and reliable pressure reduction is required for gases or compatible liquids.
